The starting point of this magnificent and, at a good 16 kilometers, moderately difficult circular hike is the house of the black mountains in oberbach. The path leads down through the village, along the upper stream in the direction of eckartsroth, where one enters the forest and marches on adventurously winding paths along the sinn downhill to riedenberg.
At the small chapel, the "kapelli", the view opens up and you can already see the farnsberg towering high above riedenberg, which you have to climb. But first you descend to riedenberg to the lowest point of the tour and cross the village before the crisp main climb begins.
One finally leaves the forest again below the inkwell to see the impressive traces of basalt quarrying at the "spitzen steinkuppel to marvel at, which was completely removed and hollowed out. The rhon mountain hut invites you to a well-deserved rest before the path continues uphill above the ink barrel to one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the rhon.
Here at the farnsberg, one has a view of the upper sinn valley and the dammersfeld mountains behind it. The path continues through the forest and past old hute beech trees to the wurzburger haus, which also offers wonderful views of the sinn valley. Here is reached the highest point of the hike and another rhon hut, where also a fortification is possible.
Through the forest the tour goes down again, with wonderful views to the dammersfeld, over the "rose garden" at the oberbacher ziegelhutte. Up here you feel like you're on a mountain pasture, except that the pastures are filled with icelandic horses instead of cows. High above oberbach begins the descent back to the parking lot.
