Possenheim church rededicated

What is good for a long time is good at last. This truism applies to the church renovation in possenheim. On sunday the evangelical christians could celebrate.
"Dear god, you certainly didn't expect that the renovation work would be finished by the time the village church is rededicated on 5. May be finished. But we prayed and hoped, and you see, it worked out after all." With this dialogue with god, dean martin ost humorously pointed out the difficulties of the renovation to the visitors in the crowded church. Again and again, new repair points came to light during the work. "The planned renovation has actually turned into a complete overhaul", martin ost explained in advance in an interview. In addition, the long cold winter prevented completion in december or early this year, as architect martin hahn from uffenheim also noted.
According to martin ost's words, the evangelical parish had planned the renovation of the church's exterior for 2011. The roof truss was rotten and tiles were falling down. "But since the craftsmen were fully booked with orders, we had to postpone the renovation for a year" explained martin ost. In retrospect, this was not a bad thing, because the costs had certainly been higher in 2011. "So but could the financing plan of the 11. March 2011 be respected", reported ost. Although additional work was done on the renovation of the church, the interior was painted, a new electrical system was installed and a ring beam was pulled in.

Costs and financing
Of the costs in the amount of 720,000 euros the regional church contributes 536,500 euros, the town of iphofen 72,000 euros (ten percent), and the district of lower franconia contributes 4,000 euros. The local church congregation with its 170 or so parishioners contributed around 66,000 euros. The major part of these costs will be covered by reserves that have been saved in recent years for renovations.
Nevertheless, dean martin ost, who held the festive service together with his wife, pastor sabine ost, and the regional bishop christian schmidt, was naturally pleased about three further donations that were presented during the service: 500 euros came from the countrywomen, 1000 euros from the possenheim fire department, and 2000 euros from the burgerhaus association.
After a visit to the construction site in april christian schmidt did not expect the work to be finished in time either. Except for the side entrance and the excavation work, the workers have actually finished their work. Christian schmidt was very pleased that this very small church community had taken on such a renovation project. "You could be proud of your church", he emphasized in the service. In his sermon, which the regional bishop delivered partly in french dialect, he addressed the importance of churches for people: "they are an inn for the soul, where you can feel strong. A house of silence in an otherwise noisy world and a house of prayer to talk to god."
Mayor josef mend emphasized the very good community spirit in possenheim and praised the very successful renovation of the church. "The church now shines in new splendor inside and out." Deputy district administrator paul streng praised the work of the craftsmen and the local church community on behalf of the district of kitzingen.
The festive service was musically framed by the children of the children's service (conducted by claudia krautlein), by the trombone choir (conducted by heinz dingeldein), by the 26 female singers of the "mainsingers", and by the "sangers" (conducted by heinz dingeldein) conducted by hermine fischer from neuburg and christine wich on the organ. At the joint dinner in the burgerhaus, christian schmidt signed the golden book of the town of iphofen.
